So byd states the towing capacity is 750kg braked. Has anyone experimented with higher capacities? 1tonne etc?

Haven't experimented.

The atto3 is a front wheel drive. Heavier trailer will lift the front wheels, and vastly reduce power & handing.

No experience here overloading an Atto. However, any vehicle will physically move a load beyond its rated capacity. Expect accelerated wear, cumbersome driving and dramatically reduced range for any weight. These increase exponentially as the weight increases. Above rated capacity add loss of insurance and legality driving.

In short, people over load cars all the time. Some get away with it. Some fail spectacularly. All experience accelerated wear etc.

What is the question exactly? It will work like any other car. You'll get away with a certain amount, and take on extra risk.

Being front wheel drive, the car already struggles on a loose surface up hill without a trailer, and threatens to get stuck with an empty 8x5. Extrapolating from my experience, overloading it would get you stuck real quick if you aren't on a good surface.

A friend had an accident with their caravan. The police came and took all the scattered pieces of the caravan to weigh. They weren’t overloaded but be careful.

i think your original post worded wrong. I think it should say "unbraked" I also think that almost all states in Australia allow trailer to be unbraked when under 750kg and need trailer brakes over 750kg to be registured

Bit difficult to comprehend the difference between 700 and 750 is 50 kg whether it’s braked or unbraked wouldn’t of thought 50 kg made that much of a difference

Go ahead. Do it. What could possibly go wrong?
