Hey BYD Family - Sorry for the long post - just setting the context, bear with me...

I'm planing a trip from Noosa to K'gari next weekend. ABRP says I'd arrive at the ferry (near Hervey Bay) with about 30% battery, so I'm going to have to charge somewhere in order to do the round trip. I've never driven this route so I'm after advise on the best place(s) to stop.

ABRP says to stop at the Chargefox just before Maryborough, which looks like it might be at a service station on the highway, which is the most convenient. Looks like they have a 50kw tethered charger, and a 22kw one where I'd need my own cable.

My questions:
Should I plan to stop somewhere earlier for a little top-up (I'd prefer 2 stops with shorter charging each one). If so, where? More specifically if anyone knows, there's a Tesla Supercharger location near Gympie on the route. Anyone know if Tesla have opened this one to us "other EV" folk yet?
How reliable is this Chargefox station - i.e. will I get there with 30% battery and its out of action and I'm buggered (hence why I'd prefer 2 stops).
I don't currently have a cable (always used public tethered and my home solution is tethered too). The info out there about what cable to use etc gets a bit confusing. But my takeaway has been if its a 22kw station "Type 2" then its probably AC, and thus maximum charge of the Atto 3 is 7kwh. Therefore if I just get a 7kw Type 2 to Type 2 cable, that should be fine? Any suggestion on length (I'd be guessing 3-5m)?

Your best bet is probably the Chargefox on Lennox St in Maryborough. It is right next to a shopping centre.

As I live in the area, I never have cause to use it but there are always cars there so it seems reliable.

No fast chargers in hervey bay - 7kw is about it but Maryborough is fine. Maybe top up at Stocklands HB and have a coffee or two then gauge the trip home with another top up at any charge fox along the way...Gunalda isn't a bad spot. But don't fret, easy range, it'll be a doddle

I assume you are staying at Kingfisher because you won't get out of it in a front wheel drive, so have you asked if you can connect to a 15amp socket somewhere. I'm assuming you are crossing with the car.

It's only 170 km from Noosa to Hervey Bay/River Heads...

If I were you I'd just do a charge in Maryborough either on your way up or on the way back...

It will take approx 30+ minutes the charger is in the middle of town.
Go for a walk & explore Maryborough's beautiful & Historical buildings & grab a coffee etc.

I do regular trips to Brisbane & back of 300km & don't stop for charging & usually arrive with 25% charge left.

I live in Maryborough & use the DC charger on occasions...it's 50kw & 30c a kw.

Be aware, any AC charger e.g 22kW, will only charge your car to a maximum of 7kWh. So in 1 hr you will only get max of 7 kW. Better to look for DC chargers.

DC fast charger at Gunalda (just off the highway) might be worth considering.

"Plugshare" is the allround goto app for charger status information! 👌
